Stonyhurst Tolkien Trail Race
Saturday, 11 July 2026
Stonyhurst, Clitheroe, Lancashire, UK
The Stonyhurst Tolkien Trail Race on 11 July 2026 is an eleventy one (11.1km) course on trails that inspired the greatest fantasy story of all time.
Starting on the Avenue of the stunning Stonyhurst College, where Tolkien spent time and wrote parts of the Lord of the Rings, the race is a stunning journey through the Ribble Valley, blending scenic riverside paths, rolling countryside, and winding woodland trails. There are fast, runnable sections and gentle climbs (all but the last one at ‘Mount Doom’).
Expect a mix of grassy fields, well-trodden trails, and the occasional muddy stretch – just enough to make things fun without slowing you down too much. A final stretch along the River Ribble rounds off an unforgettable run in one of Lancashire’s most picturesque landscapes.
This event is now organised by Stonyhurst College.
